This Week in Class #1

Filed under: This Week In Class —— joey1 @ 8:08 am

Hello Readers of the world! I am going to start a tradition for this post. Whenever I post a This Week In Class I will start with locations of the current readers, so here we go. As of today I have readers in the U.S.A in The Tristate Area, California, and Washington State. I also have readers In Malaysia and the Middle East. Well that’s it for now.

Now onto what happened this last week. In Math we measured the school’s height using am mirror and the measurements of the person’s height, distance from person to mirror, and distance from mirror to building. It was supposed to teach us about proportions. In science My teacher Mr. S came back from being sick for two weeks. In outdoor education we set up tents in the play area by the first set of outdoor basketball hoops. In LA we have finished A Wrinkle In Time I think it was a good book. If you are interested you can buy the book here.

In  Social Studies we are continuing the Islam simulation. And in gym we are playing softball.

Please check out my links there are some really cool blogs out there and I am going to put out a blogger of the week post and why I think they deserved that title. They Will make their way onto my soon to come bloging hall of fame page. I got this Idea from Mr.R on Intrepid Classroom. I also came up with a way to get you my readers involved. For every comment you post you will earn a point (really exceptional  comments will earn you 2) and at the end of each week (starting and ending on Tuesday do not ask me why) I will add up the score and post the winners in a new page. Thanks Everyone out there for reading my blog. And can’t wait till the start of these great challanges.

p.s. If you are the reader in California I would like to hear from you and how you found out about the blog, I have accounted for all the other dots on my Clustrmaps.

A Wrinkle In Time Themes

I think the main theme of this book is love and friendship. The Concept of good triumphing over evil and the idea that the Earth is covered by a cloud of evil. I think the Black Thing in a wrinkle in time represents all hatred and war on Earth but, as demonstrated by the work of The Ms. W’s , Meg , Charles, Calvin , Mr. Murry, and the beasts of Ixchel , that the world can be changed by taking small steps.

This video and this song are both , I think, really fitting to this theme of Changing the world. I think that it shows if people want to change the world they can do it their way with their personal talents.

My overall impression of this book was that it was amazingly well written and a great piece of literature of it’s time.  The most memorable scene for me is when Ms. Whatsit shows up in town and is regarded as a tramp then throughout the book L’Engle builds her character up. The first time is when they Tesser the to Uriel. Second is on Uriel when she becomes the Pegasus like creature. Finally when she reveals that she is a dead star. So what is Ms. Whatsit and for that matter what are the Ms. W’s really? I think Meg puts it blankly when she says the Ms. W’s are angels. I also found this cool video with clips from A Wrinkle in Time the movie and relevant song. Well enjoy.

Hey guys, some of you may have noticed a sleight problem with the blog search box. The writing doesn’t appear. I am working to fix this but until then here is my short term solution.

When you have typed in your search, highlight what is in the box. Your search should appear.

Filed under: Caravan Log, Islam —— joey1 @ 10:07 am

Today I learned some cool facts about Islam. First, I learned that all Muslims must wash before praying. Second, I learned that Islam was started around 674 A.D. Third, I learned that Muslims pray 5 times a day. The final thing I learned is that the designs on the Muslim prayer rugs always point towards Mecca (or Makkah).
